You and Enzymes!
You and Enzymes!
Renowned food enzyme researcher Dr. Edward Howell stated his belief that "Enzymes may be the key factor in preventing chronic disease and extending the human lifespan" just before he retired in 1970. Substances known as enzymes enable life to occur. They are essential for all chemical reactions that take place within our bodies. There would be absolutely no action if enzymes weren't present. When it comes to hormones, vitamins, and minerals, enzymes are the key. In 1946, Dr. Howell penned the book titled "The Status of Food Enzymes in Digestion and Metabolism." His latest publication is called "Enzyme Diet."
Enzymes are essential for optimum health, although most people nowadays don't know that. Every biological reaction in the human body is catalyzed by an enzyme. Our very survival depends on enzymes. A plethora of health issues can manifest when the pancreas is unable to produce enough enzymes.
"Why should we worry about obtaining enzymes in our diet if our pancreas produces them?" you may be wondering at this point. Unfortunately, there is a limit to how many high-quality enzymes our bodies can create. We are "using up" our pancreas' capacity to make an adequate replica of an enzyme every time we require an enzyme. Our digestive systems were built to function with the enzymes found in meals that originated in nature. Digestive processes for most raw foods begin in the upper part of the stomach, where they are stored. The common belief is that food is broken down by the "acids" in our stomachs. This is just wrong! Enzymes included in food are what actually break down the food.
After the enzymes in the stomach have done their job, the food moves to the lower part of the stomach, where more enzymes are at work. The stomach's hydrochloric acid is primarily responsible for one function. In order to allow other enzymes to function on other materials, it lowers the pH of the stomach contents. What I mean is that when food doesn't have enzymes in it, we set ourselves up for a chain reaction that isn't good for us.
Nutrients are absorbed from food once the pancreas has delivered the enzymes necessary to break it down appropriately. Unfortunately, most of the food we consume goes bad. The procedure affects the beneficial bacterial culture in the colon and releases gas and hazardous waste products.
Because it is constantly overworked and overexerted, the pancreas eventually stops being able to make enough enzymes. This happens around two or three times a day. This has a trickle-down effect on our immune systems, which in turn accelerates aging and degenerative alterations across our metabolic systems. Let us pretend for a moment that this has been going on in our bodies for forty to sixty years. Because our white blood cells contain enzymes that digest and destroy foreign invaders and dead material our bodies strive to get rid of, eating without enzymes puts a load on the immune system. The immune system has a tough time keeping up with enzyme-deficient diet.
The gradual but steady loss of metabolic enzymes is another factor. Enzymes found in the body and circulatory system that aid in systemic cleansing by hydrolyzing lipids and other potentially hazardous substances. Consider the potential consequences of a lack of these enzymes: the accumulation of harmful waste products and the effects of stored lipids over the course of 40 or 60 years. Is it any surprise that cardiovascular disease ranks high among the leading causes of death in the United States? Lipase is the sole enzyme in the body capable of hydrolyzing lipids. In the absence of lipase, fat is not broken down but instead stored. On its own, this can cause obesity and cardiovascular disease.
Health, or lack thereof, isn't something that happens out of thin air. Our lifestyle and everyday routines determine the outcome, whether it's good health or bad health. You cannot expect there to be little harm when you misuse the system for so long in that way.
Then, what is the solution? The single most significant thing someone can do to make this situation better is to alter their way of life. The hard truth is that "no enzymes" are present in processed or cooked foods that reach temperatures above 118 degrees. Additionally, you shouldn't "digest" a complete course of cooked foods by eating a "raw" salad and then assuming that the salad's enzymes would do the job. Enzymes are present in nearly all foods to aid digestion, but rarely beyond what is necessary.
Doing nothing in the face of this obvious reality is the other option. Millions of individuals around the nation are already feeling the effects of this kind of decision-making. Americans have the worst health of any modern nation on earth, despite having the best medical system on the planet. There must be some problem, doesn't it? You truly have the power to decide!
